View post tag: Seasprite September 12, 2016 View post tag: NZDF New Zealand’s new Seasprite helicopter deploys on first mission with an offshore patrol vessel Share this article View post tag: HMNZS Otago Back to overview,Home naval-today New Zealand’s new Seasprite helicopter deploys on first mission with an offshore patrol vessel Authorities One of the Royal New Zealand Air Force’s (RNZAF) newly acquired fleet of Seasprite helicopters is embarking on its first operational mission with an offshore patrol vessel (OPV) to help transport 23 government staff and about seven tonnes of vital equipment and supplies to the remote Kermadec Islands. An SH-2G (I) Seasprite, one of eight that are being introduced into service this year, has joined the Royal New Zealand Navy’s HMNZS Otago on a resupply mission to the Kermadec Islands from 12-23 September.“Although the newer-model Seasprite was deployed on a frigate for a multilateral exercise in June, their deployment on an OPV is a major step forward in increasing the NZDF’s ability to support other government agencies in New Zealand and in the Pacific region. This also marks a major milestone in the modernisation of the Navy’s fleet,” Captain Dave McEwan, the Acting Maritime Component Commander, said.Lieutenant Commander (LTCDR) Andrew Sorensen, the Commanding Officer of Otago, said the ship’s first stop would be at Macauley Island, where the Seasprite will drop off a Department of Conservation (DoC) representative and two dogs trained to detect rats and other pests.Otago will travel next to Raoul Island, to resupply the DoC outpost there. About seven tonnes of goods, including food supplies, general equipment and a light utility vehicle, will be flown to the island in underslung loads.“The NZDF provides logistical support to other government agencies and the resupply operation to the Kermadecs is a good example of that,” LTCDR Sorensen said.National Maritime Coordination Centre manager Kevin Arlidge said the Seasprite’s deployment with an offshore patrol vessel would allow them to reach more inaccessible and remote parts of the Kermadecs and would widen the scope of the NZDF’s work in support of DoC and GNS Science.

Facebook Twitter Google+ Syracuse coaches and players spoke about the Death Valley environment at length on Tuesday. Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney didn’t waste much time alluding to that topic, as well as the overall matchup with the Orange, during the Atlantic Coast Conference coaches’ teleconference Wednesday morning.“It’s homecoming here at Clemson, always a special time,” Swinney said. “Syracuse is coming in and this is a team that I think just played their best game and seems to be really getting a lot of confidence.”The No. 21 Tigers (5-2, 4-1 ACC) host Syracuse (3-4, 1-2) at 7 p.m. Saturday in Clemson, South Carolina in another top-flight matchup for the Orange. Clemson caps off a stretch of three ranked opponents in a stretch of five weeks for Syracuse.Swinney complimented SU freshman quarterback AJ Long, who is coming off his first college win and first rushing touchdown in the Orange’s 30-7 victory at Wake Forest on Saturday.“He’s kind of a got a gunslinger mentality. Throws a dart. He really does,” Swinney said. “He’s a good thrower on the run, he’s made some plays for them running out of the pocket. Has kind of a coolness to him and a poise that you don’t really see in a lot of freshmen.AdvertisementThis is placeholder text“He’s very competitive and the more I watched him the more impressed I was with him. Seems like the guys have kind of rallied around him a little bit and they’re playing very hard.”On the defensive side, Swinney said he thinks Syracuse is better than it was last season. He added that the Orange’s tendencies are similar, but the personnel is enhanced. He mentioned SU linebacker Cameron Lynch as one of the top pass rushers in the ACC and name-dropped safety Darius Kelly as a “really good player.”Syracuse is aggressive in its blitzing schemes, Swinney said, and can bring pressure from anywhere.“They’re not a passive bunch,” Swinney said. “… This is a team that plays with great effort and again with an aggressive mentality and, from a play-calling standpoint, forces the issue and makes you really be dialed in.“There’s an opportunity to make plays, but you better have everybody communicating on the same page and you have to make those competitive plays when they present themselves.” Comments Published on October 22, 2014 at 2:49 pm Contact Phil: [email protected] | @PhilDAbb
It is the bright red light blinking on the dashboard. Sure, you can keep driving. But sooner or later, you’re going to have to deal with it.As the Dodgers cruised into San Francisco this week with the best record in the National League, they also lead the National League in runs scored (second in the majors) and have the lowest ERA (3.08) in the league. But flashing red in the midst of all that is the bullpen. Dodgers relievers have a 4.49 ERA, 18th in the majors.Over the past 16 games, it has gotten worse. The Dodgers’ bullpen has a 6.28 ERA in that time with a 1.56 WHIP. Relievers have given up runs in 11 of the 16 games. Take away closer Kenley Jansen’s five scoreless appearances in that time and the ERA of the rest of the bullpen group jumps to 7.17. Fire danger is on Dave Roberts’ mind as Dodgers head to San Francisco Dodgers’ Max Muncy trying to work his way out of slow start Newsroom GuidelinesNews TipsContact UsReport an Error “Our guys have the stuff and we have enough diversified looks to be really good down there,” Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said. “We’re not doing it. We haven’t done it to this point consistently enough. But we do feel like there’s a potential for us to have a really good bullpen with internal guys. If we’re able to do that, great. If not then we’ll try to remedy it from the outside.”One remedy is no longer available.Free-agent reliever Craig Kimbrel agreed to a three-year, $43 million contract with the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday. A source confirmed that the Dodgers were in contact with Kimbrel before he chose the Cubs. But the seven-time All-Star closer with 333 career saves (14th all-time and tops among active pitchers) was not interested in a situation where he would, at best, share the closer’s role with another pitcher.Friedman already broke from his history of bullpen building by committing significant money to a non-closer when the Dodgers signed Joe Kelly to a three-year, $25 million contract this offseason. But Kelly has been part of the problem, not the solution. Through his first 20 appearances as a Dodger, Kelly has a bloated 7.91 ERA and an unsightly 1.81 WHIP thanks to a .325 average against and .933 OPS.“There have been like eight outings where he’s had bad outings,” Friedman said. “In his last eight, he’s been way better. He had one bad one with some fluky hits or whatever. So he’s been way better. It’s still not good enough. But it’s directionally been way better. We’ll see. Cody Bellinger homer gives Dodgers their first walkoff win of season Dodgers hit seven home runs, sweep Colorado Rockies Friedman was given two ends of another spectrum to choose from. At one end, there is the optimistic belief that the bullpen will improve and the current group will be good enough to carry the team through the postseason. At the other, there is the conviction that the bullpen needs to be torn down and rebuilt.Where does his opinion land?“It’s definitely not a rebuild because I feel, no matter what, we have good pieces,” he said. “It’s more about augmenting than tearing down. So between the tearing down and ‘We’re going to be good,’ the benefit is we don’t have to choose that. We’re spending a ton of energy trying to make our existing guys better and while we’re doing that we’ll also be assessing the market which is not major-league exclusive.”ALSOAs expected, the Dodgers activated Austin Barnes from the Injured List on Thursday and sent Will Smith back to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Smith was 6 for 21 (.286) with a double and two home runs in six games with the Dodgers. Barnes (out for 10 days with a groin injury) went 2 for 5 with a pair of singles and caught 12 innings on a two-game rehab assignment with Class-A Rancho Cucamonga. … The Dodgers have signed two of their 2019 draft picks: Fresno City College pitcher Alec Gamboa (ninth round) and Virginia Commonwealth shortstop Zac Ching (10th). While they have agreed to terms with other draft picks, their contracts are not official because the players have not passed their physicals.Staff writer J.P. Hoornstra contributed. “It’s about feeling like we’ve got four to five ’pen arms in October that we trust and can help us. That’s what you need.”It’s hard to see where those arms are going to come from at this point. Right-hander Dylan Floro is the only reliever among the current non-closer group with an ERA under 3.20.“We have certainly had stretches this year where our bullpen has not performed up to our expectations,” Friedman said. “That being said, we still feel like we have a lot of really talented pitchers down there and other guys that are knocking on the door for an audition at some point.“As we sit here today, all of our focus is on how to help each individual guy perform at their highest level. And now that the draft has concluded we’ll have one eye on that and one eye toward potential adds (before the July 31 trade deadline) and the bullpen is certainly an area that is top of the list.”Among the options, Friedman acknowledged, are top pitching prospects Dustin May and Tony Gonsolin. Both are starters with bright futures in that role. May is 2-4 with a 4.18 ERA at Double-A Tulsa. Gonsolin was shut down for more than a month with an injury in his side (a convenient way to put a governor on his workload) and has made only five starts at Triple-A Oklahoma City, going 1-1 with a 1.93 ERA.“It’s certainly possible. Sure,” Friedman said of seeing them in the Dodgers’ bullpen later this season. “There’s just a lot more that is going to play out before now and then. But as we’re assessing candidates we have a number of really exciting upside-type players in our existing bullpen and also in our minor leagues.”Some of those upsides are attached to major-league starters Kenta Maeda and Julio Urias. Both have experience pitching out of the bullpen in the postseason and could be part of the solution in October. With a 10-game lead in the division already, the Dodgers have shown they can absorb their bullpen problems in the regular season – they are 37-3 when leading after seven innings and even with the swollen ERA over the past 16 games they are 13-3 in that time. There will be little sense of urgency to overpay for a reliever on the midseason trade market. But the Dodgers under Friedman have shown an ability to identify the team’s greatest midseason need and address it by getting the best player available at the position – from Rich Hill to Yu Darvish to Manny Machado – though they have had to dig deep into the organization’s prospect inventory to do so.“Lining up on trades is never easy,” Friedman said. “We’ll operate on dual tracks of doing everything we can to get our existing guys better while canvassing the market. The answer will kind of fall out of doing both of those things.”Related Articles How Dodgers pitcher Ross Stripling topped the baseball podcast empire

SAA also announced that its cargo division, SAA Cargo, has for the third consecutive year been named the Best African Cargo Airline at the Air Cargo News Awards ceremony held in London on 8 May. Award for cargo division The survey measures over 35 different aspects of passenger satisfaction for each airline’s product and service standards – evaluating the typical travel experience across both airport and onboard environments. Operating since 1999, the survey is held in highest esteem for its clarity of process and rigorously applied rules of complete independence. “We are elated and indeed feel very proud that our customers have, for three consecutive years, voted us the best in Africa,” said SAA Cargo’s Justice Luthuli in a statement earlier this month. “The measures we have put in place to ensure rapid and reliable airfreight movement continue to yield dividends in the form of increased customer satisfaction.” Over the years SAA has received several awards, making the South African national carrier the most awarded airline in Africa. Last year, SAA was ranked as being amongst the world’s top 15 international airlines for both its Business and Economy Class products and service. “Thousands of SAA customers can look forward to travelling onboard Africa’s most awarded airline,” Zulu said in a statement this week. South African Airways has been voted Africa’s best airline for the eighth year running, as well as the best cargo airline and first for staff service excellence in Africa, in the Skytrax World Airline Awards. This is the second award received by SAA Cargo this year in recognition of service excellence. (Image: South African Football Association) Minister of Sceince and Technology Naledi PandorThe Minister of Sport and Recreation South Africa, Fikile Mbalula, welcomes the initiatives led by the South African Football Association, the Premier Soccer League and the entire sporting fraternity leadership in the fight against xenophobia.Minister Mbalula urges all peace loving people to stand together against all forms of attacks to innocent people. “Xenophobia is wrong, it’s inhuman and it does not belong to South Africa or anywhere in the World. Just yesterday, we found refuge in other African countries when apartheid was in full force. Governments of other African countries gave us homes, fed us and most important, helped in the liberation of all South Africans. Imagine if when we were in pain they told us to go home; the freedom we have today would have never been achieved.”The stance taken against xenophobia by the leadership, the teams and supporters in sport yet again signals the importance of sport in uniting people.
