Executive chairman John Chen told analysts that the weak revenue was mainly confined to a segment that provides software to organizations that require secure communications, such as government agencies and financial services. The company, which keeps its books in U.S. dollars, reported revenue in what was BlackBerry’s second quarter grew to US$244 million under generally accepted accounting principles, up from $210 million in the same quarter last year. It also reported a loss of $44 million compared with a profit of $43 million a year ago.Bombardier Inc. — Bombardier Inc. says federal authorities have certified its two new business jets, a key step in its turnaround plan as the company seeks to exploit the growing market for large, private jetliners. The plane-and-train maker says Transport Canada has given the green light for the Global 5500 and Global 6500, which Bombardier plans to enter into service later this year. The aircraft are updates to Global 5000 and 6000s with changed wings, new flight deck, redesigned interior and new engines.
